A color variation of the Giant Desert Hairy Scorpion
The Giant Desert Hairy Scorpion is a hardy and quick scorpion that is part of the Caraboctonidate family. They can be found in the Southwest United States and Northern Mexico.
The Giant Desert Hairy Scorpion can grow up to 6 inches tip to tail and live up to 30 years.
They thrive in captivity with the right care. The temperature should range from 76F-90F with the humidity levels at 60%. A heating pad or low wattage bulb should do the trick. We recommend a 5-gallon tank or bigger for any of the adult scorpions. Sand and a small amount of clay make a great substrate. It allows them to hide as they would naturally in the wild. Adding other hides to the enclosure will make them a bit more active and happy as well. They can be aggressive when scared, but due to their size and temperament, you can house them together. We recommend not having more than 4 in a 20-gallon at a time.
The Giant Hairy Scorpion is nocturnal. Which means they come out at night to hunt. They eat crickets and mealworms. If you have more than one scorpion in the enclosure keep the food to scorpion ratio at 2:1. For every one scorpion add two crickets or mealworms.
